The 12 Regions of Morocco
In 1997, the enactment of the localization law created regions in Morocco. Since 2015, there are 12 regions in Morocco which are governed by governors appointed by the king. These 75 sub-provinces fall under these 12 regions.
Morocco is divided into twelve regions, the highest administrative division. These regions are Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Souss-Massa, Drâa-Tafilalet, Oriental, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fès-Meknès, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, Casablanca-Settat and Marrakesh-Safi.

Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab
Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab is located in the southern part of the country. Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab has an area of 142,865 square kilometers and has a population of 190,000 people. Dakhla is the capital of the region.
Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra
Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra is located in the northwest of Morocco. The region has an area of 160,363 square kilometers and a population of 410,000 people. Laâyoune is the capital of the region.
Guelmim-Oued Noun
Guelmim-Oued Noun is located in the southwest of Morocco. The region has an area of 146,823 square kilometers and a population of 450,000 people. Guelmim is the capital of the region.
Souss-Massa
Souss-Massa is located in the southwest of Morocco. The region has an area of 37,956 square kilometers and a population of 3,000,000 people. Agadir is the capital of the region.
Drâa-Tafilalet
Drâa-Tafilalet is located in the southeast of Morocco and has an area of 156,831 square kilometers. The population of the region is 1,800,000 people and Er Rachidia is its capital.
Oriental
The Oriental region of Morocco is located in the northeast part of the country and has an area of 65,844 square kilometers. The population of the region is 2,600,000 people and Oujda is its capital.
Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima
The Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region is located in the northwest part of Morocco and has an area of 11,778 square kilometers. The population of the region is 4,100,000 people and Tanger is its capital.
Fès-Meknès
The Fès-Meknès region is located in the north center part of Morocco and has an area of 60,092 square kilometers. The population of the region is 4,700,000 people and Fès is its capital.
Rabat-Salé-Kénitra
The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region is located in the north west part of Morocco and has an area of 34,006 square kilometers. The population of the region is 5,000,000 people and Rabat is its capital.
Béni Mellal-Khénifra
The Béni Mellal-Khénifra region is located in the north center part of Morocco and has an area of 34,817 square kilometers. The population of the region is 2,800,000 people and Béni Mellal is its capital.
Casablanca-Settat
The Casablanca-Settat region is located in the west center part of Morocco and has an area of 14,820 square kilometers. The population of the region is 7,800,000 people and Casablanca is its capital.
Marrakesh-Safi
The Marrakesh-Safi region is located in the west center part of Morocco and has an area of 53,915 square kilometers. The population of the region is 4,900,000 people and Marrakesh is its capital.
