Yūsuf ibn Tāshufīn Biography:
Yusuf ibn Tashfin was a great Berber leader and the first ruler of the Almoravid dynasty. He was born in Morocco around 1061 and died in 1106, after leading a successful military campaign during which he conquered most of North Africa and parts of Spain.
He began his career as a general under the Almoravid Sultan, Yusuf bin Tashfin’s father-in-law. Under his leadership, the Almoravids went on to found Marrakech (c. 1062), conquered almost all of Morocco and Algeria and established their own kingdom.
